3rd mile oak brownies started in 2001 with 10 girls, 2 adult leaders and 1 young leader. We started with only the money the girls gave each week as their subscription fee so craft consisted of items we could make using cheap materials such as paper, card and wool. As we could not afford outings much of the summer term was spent playing a variety of games at the local park or going on mystery walks where the girls had to answer a series of questions about things that could be seen along the way.
We spent many evenings singing songs and playing games, although the games were a lot quieter as we only had a small group. Our unit didn’t take long to get up to full strength of 18 girls along with a 3-year waiting list. In 2006 we decided to up our numbers to 24 girls and 4 leaders in an attempt to clear some of the waiting list, this didn’t really work as we kept getting more and more girls on the list. In 2007 it became apparent that 24 girls in our small hall was too many as there wasn’t really enough room to play the games the girls wanted, so we took the decision to go back down to 18 girls, this was achieved by not adding any girls over the age of 5 to our waiting list. Gradually as the older girls left we got the pack back to the size it is now
(18 girls) and our waiting list has been re-opened.

Don't wait until your daughter is 7 as there may not be a space at the time she needs it, put her name on the list now. It doesn't mean she has to join, but at least she will have the chance to should she want the place once she is 7
